Inter Miami claimed its second franchise win on Wednesday night with an impressive display against Atlanta United.
Diego Alonso’s men climbed off the bottom of the Eastern Conference and maintained their unbeaten record at home with a 2-1 win over Atlanta.
Winger Lewis Morgan scored with two excellent finishes either side of an Eric Remedi equaliser.
Inter started very brightly and should have been ahead within five minutes when the lively Robbie Robinson squared for Rodolfo Pizarro. Somehow, Guzan managed to scramble to keep the ball out.
The home side continued to push forward and Robinson was unlucky not to see an attempt of his own find the net, the striker cutting inside and curling one just wide of the far post.
Miami finally took the lead on the 27th minute when a break from an Atlanta corner ended with Pizarro playing in Morgan following a 3 v 2. The Scottish winger made no mistake, striking the ball across his body and into the left bottom corner.
The lead would last just five minutes, though. The ball broke for Remedi in the box and despite Roman Torres looking like he had done enough, the ball deflected back to Remedi, who scooped the ball home while on the floor.
The equaliser didn’t discourage Alonso’s men, however. Ben Sweat powered down the left and at the second attempt, he found Morgan with a cross.
Morgan, with little back-lift, found the net with a superb half-volley on his second touch, perhaps Miami’s best goal of the season so far.
That wasn’t the end of the drama before half-time, either. Nicolas Figal lashed out with an elbow and conceded a penalty, and despite Luis Robles saving the penalty, it looked as though the Five Stripes had equalised when Cubo Torres knocked in the rebound.

But Atlanta was forced to retake when encroachment was spotted on review, and Robles, this time diving the other way, heroically palmed Ezequiel Barco’s spot-kick away to keep his team ahead.
The second half proved to be a damp squib compared to the non-stop action first half.
But that suited Inter as they closed out their second MLS win without many nervous moments.
An impressive win for Miami, which extends its unbeaten home record and makes it one defeat in five games to climb off the bottom of the Eastern Conference, above Chicago Fire, and to within five points off the playoff spots.
