LAFC kept things mostly in-state for the Superdraft.
Two of LAFC’s three selections in Thursday’s Superdraft grew up in California. The headliner was its first round selection Danny Trejo, who grew up in Northern California, but played his college soccer in Southern California, while its third round selection, Alvaro Quezada, grew up and played his college soccer in Southern California.
Trejo, drafted 14th overall, played three years at Cal State Northridge, where he had a decorated career. Trejo had 26 goals and 15 assists in 58 matches for the Matadors. In 2019, Trejo, then a junior, was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year, Second Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference after finishing tied for first in the league with nine goals. During his freshman year, Trejo was selected to the Big West All-Freshman Team after appearing in 21 matches and adding seven goals and three assists in 1,328 minutes. In 2018, he was chosen to the Second Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference after posting career-highs in goals (10) and shots (59). Trejo was born in Morelia, Mexico, and grew up in Mendota CA, which is located in Fresno County.
Quezada, drafted 68th overall, grew up in Lancaster, CA. and played at UC Irvine from 2017-19. He posted a breakout season as a sophomore in 2018, registering career-highs in games (21), games started (20), goals (5), assists (6), and minutes (1,642). In three years at UCI, Quezada finished with eight goals and nine assists in 56 games (40 starts).
LAFC went out of state for its second round choice, as they selected CC Uche, a defender from Lawrenceville GA, who played at Ohio State. Uche actually started at Duke University (2016-17) before playing his last two years for the Buckeyes. While at Duke, Uche appeared in 18 matches, including all 17 games during his first year in 2016. Following his sophomore campaign, Uche transferred to OSU and went on to start all 22 games he appeared in for the Buckeyes, including 18 contests as a junior.
