As the MLS is Back Tournament approaches, LAFC shored up some help on its backline as they announced the acquisition of defender Andy Najar.
Najar comes to LAFC after spending the last seven seasons with Belgian side Anderlecht. Najar featured in 164 matches, scored 14 goals, assisted 16 and helped the Belgian giants win two league titles and three Belgian Super Cup titles. Najar also made 20 UEFA Europa League appearances and featured in seven UEFA Champions League matches.
Before Anderlecht, Najar made a name for himself in MLS with DC United. Najar was just the second homegrown player to be signed and made his MLS debut in 2010. Najar was a standout playing as a midfielder, as he scored five goals and captured Rookie of the Year honors that season. Najar spent two more years with DC United before his move to Anderlecht. On the international side, Najar has represented Honduras, making 36 appearances for Los Catrachos.
LAFC is slated to resume its season in the MLS is back tournament, which will be held in Orlando beginning July 8. LAFC is in Group F, the same group as crosstown rival LA Galaxy as well as the Houston Dynamo and Portland Timbers.
