LAFC has added a major piece to its midfield.

On Wednesday evening, LAFC announced they have acquired midfielder Benny Feilhaber in exchange for $200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and $200,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). Feilhaber’s playmaking abilities in the central midfield is a welcome addition to the roster.

“Benny has enjoyed great success as an incredibly productive midfielder and has won multiple trophies here in MLS,” LAFC General Manager and Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations John Thorrington said in a statement. “He has valuable experience and will provide stability and productivity to our midfield.”

Feilhaber brings an extensive resume that stretches across Europe. Feilhaber, a former UCLA Bruin, started his career with several stints in Germany and Denmark before making his way to MLS with the New England Revolution in 2011. Feilhaber spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with New England before being traded to Sporting Kansas City prior to the 2013 season. It was in Kansas City that Feilhaber firmly planted his seed, playing five seasons with the team, leading it to the MLS Cup title in his first year there and enjoyed his finest season as a pro in 2015, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 19 others and finishing as a finalist for MVP that season.

Feilhaber has also made his mark on the United States National Team. Feilhaber has earned 44 caps for the USMNT and featured in Gold Cups in 2007 and 2009, the 2008 Summer Olympics, the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he featured in three matches.
