The reigning MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy fell 2-1 against Hammarby in the club’s first preseason match ahead of the 2015 MLS season. The game took place in the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden and is the first of two European preseason preparation matches that the Galaxy have scheduled.
2014 MLS MVP Robbie Keane notched the Galaxy’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the 7th minute after fellow forward Gyasi Zardes drew the foul. Keane was one of eight players who started in the Galaxy’s 2014 MLS Cup victory against the New England Revolution (Jaime Penedo, Omar Gonzalez, Leonardo, Robbie Rogers, Juninho, Stefan Ishizaki, Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes).
The team also featured 18-year-old Galaxy Homegrown Player Bradford Jamieson IV. Jamieson IV made his MLS debut last season, recording one assist in two MLS appearances.
LA Galaxy 2015 MLS SuperDraft selections Ignacio Maganto and Daniel Keller both saw minutes as second-half substitutions, as well as forward Edson Buddle and midfielder Mika Vayrynen, who are not currently under contract with the Galaxy.
The Galaxy will be in action again next after they travel to Dublin, Ireland for a friendly match against Shamrock Rovers F.C. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Tallaght Stadium, where Robbie Keane returns to his native country. They wrap up preseason competitions with an away match against the San Jose Earthquakes at the new Avaya Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. PT.
