The Dino played dogged opposition to Bayern Munich at Volksparkstadion, but an 88th minute strike by Joshua Kimmich ensured that all three points went back south to Munich in a 1-0 win.

Rene Adler made seven saves on the day including some fantastic ones against Robert Lewandowski (57th minute), David Alaba (71st), Kimmich (77th), and Thomas Müller (79th). However, it would be the eighth shot on goal to break Hamburg hearts. Thiago sent a pass to Franck Ribery down the left flank and Ribery found Kimmich on the far post with an open net to shoot at and Kimmich netted his second league goal of the year.

The result is harsh on the Dino who appear to be once again in a relegation fight—a third in four years–after a slow start to this season.

One downer on the day was that Mats Hummels went down with a knee injury and was replaced by Jerome Boateng.

It’s back to the UEFA Champions League and to the Calderon to face Atletico Madrid in a rematch of last season’s semifinal. Kickoff is at 1:45pm Central time on ESPN2.
