Kessler, Buck rewarded with Team of the Matchday 1 honors

FOXBOROUGH, MA– Following the New England Revolution’s 1-0 victory over Charlotte FC on MLS Opening Day, defender Henry Kessler and midfielder Noel Buck have made the MLS Team of the Week!

New England Revolution center back Henry Kessler obtained a starting position in the MLS Team of the Matchday 1 following his 89th minute game winner versus Charlotte FC on February 25th to silence a 65,000+ crowd in Charlotte, NC. Kessler, who played the full 90 minutes finished the match with man of the match honors. Offensively, Kessler had 1 goal on 3 shot attempts (1 off the post). The defender also went 23/25 (92%) on accurate passes throughout the match with 4/5 accuracy on long balls (80%). Kessler defensively was 1/1 (100%) on tackles won with 2 blocks, 8 clearances (3 of which were headed clearances), along with 5 recoveries. He went 2/3 (67%) on ground duels and was 1/3 (33%) on aerial duels won.

Along with Kessler, New England Revolution center midfielder Noel Buck managed to make a substitute appearance in the MLS Team of the Matchday 1 following his stellar performance. 17-year-old Buck managed to play the full 90 minutes and went 28/38 (74%) on accurate passes with 1 chance created. In the attack, Buck managed 54 touches with 0/1 successful dribbles (0%). His passes in the final third tallied 5 with 1/1 (100%) successful crosses and 4/7 (57%) accurate long balls. He managed to get dispossessed 0 times throughout the match and defensively was strong. Buck went 3/3 (100%) on tackles won with 4 interceptions and 3 recoveries. He went 5/12 (42%) on ground duels won and 0/1 (0%) on aerial duels won. His interception header in the 89th minute led to the ball finding right back Brandon Bye who’s through ball effort led to Henry Kessler’s 89th minute winner.

The New England Revolution (1-0-0, 3 pts.) are set to host their first home game of 2023 MLS Season on Saturday, March 4, when the Revolution host Houston Dynamo FC at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
