Game day finally came after its cancellation from the effects of the weather we had on this past weekend in the whole Portland metro area. Still, it was well worth the wait for today’s game as the Portland Timbers raised the curtain and came up with a game opening win!
As the Portland Timbers front office saw the potential of Juan David Mosquera, the man has a bright future with the Rose City side and his national team. After scoring the lone goal of the game, his persistence paid off withjust six minutes into the game.
In addition to seeing a stellar performance by the Portland backfield, an all around statement has a group and see possible potential the course of this young season. Injuries continue to plague Portland, with Yimmi Chara coming out in the 33rd minute due to hamstring injury and substituted by Santiago Moreno.
The team played solidly as well the satisfaction of Gio over the development of newcomer Evander gave us a sort of satisfaction in the Brazilian’s first game and he did put on a fair performance as time will be his best ally!
For Mosquera, scoring his first goal as a Portland Timber in the regular season, the man has a bright future in the Green and Gold and expecting more amazing things from him in this 2023 season.
Another highlight of the game was the defensive work put on the foursome defense in the backfield with Mosquera and Rasmussen in the outside and the latter making his third start. Adding to today’s defensive performance the dynamic duo of Zac McGraw and Dario Zuparic is looking promising.
With a solid group performance the Timbers backfield helped preserved the clean sheet for David Bingham who had an all star performance just like the old days with four game winning saves.
However, I applaud Gio’s boldness for improvising in the last minute his starting lineup and with no fear the man really came up big and hopefully in the remainder of the season we can see a lot of positives from the Timbers.
Teamwork and a resolute and standout performances were the right formula for today’s win and hopefully the team will be consistent in its game and ambition to deliver morewins in the course of this 2023 season.
Let’s give Evander time as Rome wasn’t built in one day, but took its time and great things come with time. I somehow foresee a one two combination between him and his compatriot Nathan Fogaca in the course of the campaign.
First game and win, but with lots to work on and for their next match against the defending champions LAFC, the Portland Timbers will have their hands full along with a tough game on the road.
