Another key figure is departing the LA Galaxy.

Days after general manager Dennis te Klose left to become the CEO of Feyenoord, it was announced on Monday that midfielder Jonathan Dos Santos will also be leaving the club after four and a half seasons. Dos Santos’ contract expired at the end of the season, meaning Dos Santos will leave on a free transfer.

“We thank Jonathan for his contributions to the LA Galaxy,” said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein. “In five seasons with the Galaxy, Jonathan was a key contributor and leader for us. We very much appreciate his work ethic, professionalism and passion during his time with our club and we wish him all the best.”

Dos Santos joined the Galaxy from La Liga side Villarreal in July of 2017 for a fee of around 5-6 million. The move at the time reunited him with his brother Giovani, who was signed back in July of 2015. Dos Santos, who started his professional career with Barcelona before moving to Villarreal, established himself in the Galaxy midfield, making 100 regular season appearances. Even after Giovani left for Club America in 2019 Jonathan still continued on with the Galaxy.

Jonathan’s departure is key for the Galaxy, as it opens up a designated player slot. The Galaxy’s two DP slots are currently occupied by Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and Kevin Cabral.
