Jesus Ferreira treble buries the Portland Timbers in Toyota Stadium in Frisco

FC Dallas forward Jesus Ferreira’s treble brought mayhem to a visiting Portland Timbers breaking their perfect three-game run in and ending it with a 4-1 FC Dallas win. As USMNT forward Ferreira sent a clear message to the Mexican National Team of his readiness and willingness to brought havoc on their south of the border foes.

This game saw the Timbers playing a sluggish first half by conceding to the locals more liberties and in a 10-minute span, Ferreira exposed the Rose City defense horribly and brought it to its knees. Despite the debut of U-22 newcomer David Ayala, the lad still needs to adapt to his teammates and the overall game.

Ferreira had a great day starting with his first goal of the game in the 26th minute with a well-rehearsed play when Paul Arriola dummied a ball played across by Alan Velasco for the first goal. Four minutes later, off a returned ball from Nanu, Ferreira just pushed it in for his second goal.

The final goal came from a screen that utilized Claudio Bravo and with a low shot from a diving Aljaz Ivacic that little the Timbers keeper could do to prevent the third goal of Ferreira in the 36th minute.

The young Argentine had a clear opportunity for a goal of his own in the 69th minute when a spectacular dive by Dallas keeper Maarten Paes made the save of the match. However, the absence of Cristhian Paredes and even Eryk Williamson were felt heavily in the Timbers’ defensive midfield.

As earlier in the game Jaroslaw Niezgoda passed to Sebastian Blanco and shot near the post of Paes. The favor was returned to Niezgoda, with a long pass brought down by the Polish international, who chipped the ball past Paes to bring the Timbers into the contest.

In the end, the Timber’s defensive backfield was not on its best days of playing and in the first half ended up surrendering three early goals and in the near end of the match surrendering the fourth goal on Jesus Ferreira and Paul Arriola combination in the 77th minute.

No win in the Big D, as you recall, defense wins games and today the defensive backfield of the Portland Timbers simply didn’t show up or played like its previous games!
