Fort Lauderdale, FL – It was a perfect day at the office for FC Dallas as they earned their first clean sheet of the season. On top of the defensive outing, it was a also a landmark day for forward Jesus Ferreira. The USMNT striker scored his 4th goal of the season. The goal would mark his 40th in the MLS, making him the youngest player to hit that mark being only 22 years and 105 days old.
The first 25 minutes was all FC Dallas, a continuous barrage on the Miami goal as the men in pink had no answers for Dallas right back Geovane Jesus as he found himself in acres of space every time he came forward. In the 27th minute Dallas would find their breakthrough from a run from Jesus, this time whipping in a fierce ball that would fumble around in the box until Ferreira would bounce on the loose ball and slot it home.
It was a dull half for Inter Miami as they struggled to break down the Dallas backline, their best chance coming from Stefanelli on a long rang shot after Leonardo Campana won the ball up high. The only bright spot for Miami was their goalkeeper Drake Callendar would put on a clinic and likely stopped it from being a three or four goal loss. The goalie would end up making seven saves, the pick of the bunch would come in the 54th minute as Ferreira would be barreling down on goal again and looked to get on the scoreboard once again but Callendar would do a fantastic job getting low and wide as his outstretched leg would save the shot. His performance would be in vain as Inter Miami was not able to score, and Dallas would hold on to win by a goal to nil.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR FC DALLAS?
Dallas came into the season with high hopes and so far so good them, they currently sit 4th in the West and if Jesús Ferreira firing on all cylinders there isn’t really a ceiling for the Texas club they will look to build on this strong start by traveling home and hosting Real Salt Lake on Saturday, April 15th at 8:30pm.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR INTER MIAMI?
Just like Dallas Inter Miami came into this season looking to build upon the late season success from last year, adding multiple key additions while also being able to keep Leonardo Campana at the club after purchasing him out right from Wolves in the Premier League. Things haven’t quite clicked yet for the Phil Neville’s side as they face life without Gonzalo Higuain, this game marks their 5th loss of the season already and sees them fall to 12th in the Eastern Conference. With a owner and city that are expecting big things this year it’ll be interesting to see how much longer things can stay the same before changes are made. They get a chance to right the ship as they travel to Houston and face the Dynamo on April 22nd at 8:30pm.
