For Jeremy Ebobisse coming on as a substitute in the 61′ minute, consequently the man deliver the game tying goal in the 82′ minute to salvage a point, against a ready Orlando City side.
I mean ready to face off this Portland Timbers and in spite of missing a couple of their most important players in Dom Dwyer serving a red card suspension and Nani being left out for Sundays match against conference rivals Red Bulls.
This match had everything going for the Portland Timbers since the start, as in the first half these had a pristine defensive game going as well generating a number of chances to ice this match.
Unfortunately, stat numbers do not win games, in spite of out-shooting the visiting Lions 26-3 in the end, the late goal that Ebobisse scored, rescued what seemed a frustrating point and result for the home side.
Contrary, for Orlando City, that put in display a very successful game plan all evening long, shining on defense and in the end, the draw became a great result.
As the Portland Timbers with their elite initial eleven in the field, their top play makers Diego Valeri, Sebastian Blanco and newcomer Brian Fernandez all of them had their efforts stop cold.
With a number of probable scores, in the 16′ minute came a close play for Sebastian Blanco missing the post, then another in the 22 minute with a shoot by Diego Valeri going wide.
Still I give an A for effort to Sebastian Blanco and Diego Valeri, these two the Timbers top play makers, little could these do to a well situated defensive block put in by Orlando’s backfield.
However, as both plays for goal were marred by errors, the costly one came in the 44′ minute when Zarek Valentin tough of a ball out of bounds when Lions winger Robinho persistence paid off for his team.
As his cross gets to Moriera that clears it poorly and gets into the path of Santiago Patiño that just a push of the ball beat Steve Clark for the Lions only goal of the match in the 44′ minute.
Now the Portland Timbers have to travel up north and face off their Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders on Sunday at Century Link Field in their first showdown of the season.
