Ireland’s Ciaran Clark still Sweden’s top scorer after 1-0 loss to Italy

Italy v Sweden

The Republic of Ireland’s Ciaran Clark may leave EURO2016 with a most unusual award.

Having netted an own goal in his side’s 1-1 draw with Sweden, he remains the Scandinavian  country’s leading scorer after their dire 1-0 loss to Italy today.

The game seemed to be heading for an even less interesting 0-0 draw until Eder scored a late 89th minute goal for the Azzuri.

Not only is Clark Sweden’s top scorer, he is their most menacing goal threat. Sweden have failed to record a shot on target in either of their two games in EURO 2016, leaving Clark as their leader in that category too.

Italy move to six points after their win and have ensured qualification inside two games. Sweden can still qualify if the beat Belgium and finish as one of the 4 best third place teams. Second place is even possible if Belgium beat or draw with the Republic of Ireland later today.
