Inter Miami suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of New York Red Bulls on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Mandela Egbo, Brian White, Ben Mines and Daniel Royer overcame Juan Agudelo’s effort in a 4-1 win for Red Bulls in Fourt Lauderdale.

Inter had gone on a run of just two defeats in seven games heading into this one but looked more like the inexperienced version of themselves from earlier in the season in a disappointing display.

Red Bulls had already threatened when a precise counter attack ended with Jorgensen clipping the crossbar.

And within 12 minutes, Red Bulls were awarded a penalty kick after Blaise Matuidi tangled with Jared Stroud.

Mandela Egbo stepped up and sent former Red Bulls keeper Luis Robles the wrong way to hand his side a lead within 14 minutes.

Miami did respond, however, Agudelo getting on the end of Matias Pellegrini’s dink into the box and turning home just seven minutes from half-time.

But after the break, it began to go pear-shaped for the hosts.

Ben Sweat sloppily gave the ball away near his own box just three minutes after half-time and after a neat exchange, Brian White turned home with a composed finish from close range.

Inter attempted to respond with Rodolfo Pizarro denied from the angle and Lewis Morgan flashing one wide.

But the game was taken away from Miami with six minutes remaining when Inter were caught short at the back.

Tom Barlow took aim after a 3 v 2 and Robles managed to deny him, but the ball fell at the feet of Mines, who tucked it home to seal all three points.

And there was even time for a fourth to cap a night to remember for Red Bulls.

Cristian Cassares Jr weaved his way through the Miami defense before playing in Royer to slot the ball into the bottom right corner.

A fourth goal to cap a disappointing evening for the Herons, who are next in action against Philadelphia Union on Sunday night.

The result sees Red Bulls climb to seventh in the Eastern Conference, while Inter drop to 13th with 11 points from 13 games.

Speaking after the game, Miami head coach Diego Alonso said: “I think we made a lot of mistakes that let our opponents take the upper hand and we weren’t able to understand how we had to play.

“It went poorly when we didn’t do what we had to do. When we did what we had to, it was easy to break their press. The thing is we didn’t do it all the time and when we stopped doing it we suffered and committed errors.”
