Inter Miami are set to complete a move for former Atlanta United centre-back Leandro Gonzalez Pirez.
The 28-year-old has spent just six months in Tijuana but he will now return to join the Herons, according to a number of sources.
Reports claim Inter Miami has agreed to a transfer and will finalise the deal in the coming days, but the deal won’t be official until the MLS transfer window opens ahead of the MLS is Back tournament in July.
Pirez impressed for Atlanta across three seasons before leaving for a brief spell in Mexico.
The Argentine was key to their early success, helping the Five Stripes win MLS Cup in 2018 and the U.S Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019.
Pirez worked under Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough at the Mercedez-Benz Arena and he is now set to link back up in South Florida.
The highly-rated centre-back made just 14 appearances for Tijuana before the Liga MX season was put on hold, much like the MLS campaign.
Pirez played 95 league games for Atlanta after arriving from Estudiantes in 2017, eventually leaving in January of this year.
He will now return to MLS after less than six months away, joining an ever-improving Inter Miami roster and will be hoping to land a starting spot at the heart of its defence alongside fellow countryman Nicolas Figal.
