Inter Miami players join rivals in skipping practice as MLS threatens lockout

Inter Miami players stayed away from practice on Monday as negotiations between MLS and the Players Association reached an impasse.

It appeared as though soccer was close to resuming after the League agreed a wage cut with players over the weekend, ahead of a proposed World Cup-style summer tournament in Orlando.

The plan was to house players in Disney’s ESPN World of Sports with regular testing over the course of the tournament before resuming the 2020 season at home grounds at a later date.

But just as a return felt close, plans are now in doubt with MLS and the Players Association reaching an impasse over a number of items.

That has led to players across the League, including all Inter Miami players, staying away from voluntary training on Monday.

And MLS has now threatened a lockout, according to a number of sources, with owners refusing to budge on their terms.

Inter were set to begin small group training on a voluntary basis at their Fort Lauderdale base on Monday, but sessions, of course, could not go ahead.

Almost every player had turned up to the individual voluntary sessions held across recent weeks

Major League Soccer are yet to comment on the situation.
