Uruguayan has won CONCACAF Champions League twice.
MIAMI, FL–Inter Miami has appointed Diego Alonso as its first ever head coach. The Uruguayan will arrive at South Florida ahead of the 2020 MLS, Inter’s inaugural campaign.
Alonso arrives with pedigree having won the CONCACAF Champions League twice. He led Pachuca to a Champions League title in 2017, winning the competition again last season with Monterrey to become the first head coach in history to win the competition with two different teams.
Alonso also enjoyed a 16 years as a professional player, spending time with 12 clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Valencia, representing Uruguay on eight occasions.
Speaking about the appointment, Inter’s Sporting Director Paul McDonough said: “In Diego we found a manager that fits our culture and has a strong desire to build a winning club for our fans. He brings a lot of experience and championship-winning mentality as we begin our drive to be among the best clubs in the Americas. We have big aspirations for our club and believe Diego has the right drive, passion and leadership to accomplish our goals.”
A historic appointment, Alonso brings an attacking style of play to South Florida where he will be looking to build on his already impressive resume.
