Impact’s Browne has Fire Feeling Blue

Montreal Impact 1-0 Chicago Fire

MONTREAL, QC—The Montreal Impact found another way in earning three points and Omar Browne had something to do about it with his first career MLS goal in the later stages of the match, while the Chicago Fire feel the hard luck approach in falling defeat from not getting anything for their efforts.

Montreal ended up taking a 1-0 victory over Chicago at Stade Saputo on Sunday afternoon. The Impact saw its record improve to 5-3-2 (17 pts.) and they are moving up in the Eastern conference standings  The Fire (2-4-3, 9 pts) lost for the second straight game and the second time on a three-game road trip.

Browne scored the only goal Montreal needed in the 83rd minute with a move along the end line. He beat defender Jorge Corrales and then the ball had gone off the leg of Bastian Schweinsteiger right back to Browne had a tap-in for goal.

Not more than five minutes earlier, the Impact could’ve gone down a man. Bacary Sagna had sent an elbow right on the head of the Fire’s Dax McCarty while both were going for a ball in the air. Sagna was issued a yellow card on the foul. McCarty was left with knock above his left eye and bleeding from the injury. McCarty did come back into the game minutes later after getting treated and wore a head band.

The match itself didn’t have that many chances on either side, but the Fire had an outstanding chance in the sixth minute. There were three attempts in a flurry in front of the Impact goal. Nico Gaitan had a shot stopped by Evan Busch, Nemanja Nikolic then struck the post, and CJ Sapong has his shot cleared off the line by Samuel Piette.

In the second half, there was another opportunity from Nikolic, he slipped past the Impact defense, but he curled the ball right into the hands of Bush for another save.

Montreal will next host New York City FC next Saturday at 5pm ET, while Chicago finishes its road trip on the West Coast at LAFC Saturday night at 9:30pm CT.
