The Portland Thorns and Washington Spirit had to share the points in their match up at Providence Park, Washington controlled the first half, and threatened Portland’s goal defended by Bella Bixby, but was unable to reach halftime with an advantage on the scoreboard.
The second half was more balanced, with increased intensity as both teams didn’t seem to settle in to the draw. Both teams had multiple chances of goals, but it was the always dangerous Sophia Smith, was who got the first cheer at minute 57 for the Portland Thorns, assisted by Natalia Kuikka. Six minutes later, it would be the turn of Washington Spirit with a header by Ashley Hatch, assisted by Anna Heilferty, who would equalize.
It ended 1-1 at Providence Park, with both teams reaching their locker room feeling they could have gotten more out of this contest. The Portland Thorns will stay at home to host Houston Dash on Saturday at 3:00 PM. Washington Spirit will travel north to Seattle to face OL Reign on Sunday, also at 3:00 PM.
