Portland Timbers showed up with a solid performance in their 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids on Saturday, June 25th, at Providence Park.
Sebastián Blanco opened the scoring from the penalty spot in injury time of the first half, and Polish international forward Jaroslaw Niezgoda, scored a brace with goals in minutes 54 and 62.
Portland’s second goal saw Niezgoda finish a pass from Portland’s New Zealand international Bill Tuiloma. His control arose the ire of the Colorado defense alleging a possible handball. The subsequent run found the forward one-on-one with substitute goal keeper Abraham Rodríguez and the Timbers forward did not miss. After a lengthy VAR check, referee Rosendo Mendoza upheld the goal call.
The third goal was a story on its own. Portland Timbers midfielder Eryk Williamson had been playing a superb game since entering the fray in place of an injured Christian Paredes in minute 21 of the first half. His clinical through ball, served Niezgoda who had just to tap in.
