After taking place in the Women’s ICC in Portland, the Dash returned home. For this match, coach James Clarkson had a full squad after all its Olympians were back with the team. Moreover, Houston fans received some great news just before the match started. The club announced they acquired USWNT defender Abby Dalhkemper via trade from North Caroline Courage in exchange for allocation money. A great move for a team that wants to qualify for the playoffs for the first time and battle for the title.

Houston was facing Racing Louisville, who was also back into league action after being part of and winning the Women’s Cup, an international tournament they hosted.

The match was very well fought during the first forty-five minutes. Both teams battle to control the midfield, which is crucial for them to create options up front. Because of this battle at midfield, both teams neutralized their opponent and there were not many chances to score in the first half.

The second half started with the home team having more energy and determination to get a goal and eventually the win. Just four minutes into the second half, Nichelle Prince found Rachel Daly inside the box. Her shot beat goalkeeper Michelle Betos to make it the 1-0 for the home team.

After the goal, Houston kept attacking. Prince and Shea Groom were key players in offense for the home side. However, Louisville defense was on point.

The away team tried to react as Cece Kizer, Nadia Nadim, and Savannah McCaskill moved Racing’s offense; but they were not able to find a clear chance to beat Jane Campbell and get the equalizer. At the end of the ninety minutes the 1-0 scoreline stood and Houston got a deserving victory.

Next for the Dash is another home match against OL Reign on Wednesday September 1st, whereas Racing will host the same OL Reign team three days later.
