The Houston Dash opened their third NWSL season with a 3-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars. The young Houston team showed a very promising start in front of their home crowd of 7,44o fans. The Dash showed a very versatile offense lead by Janine Beckie and Rachel Daly, and Carli Lloyd in the midfield.
Chicago started it off when Christen Press scored the first goal of the season in the 13th minute. Even though Red Starts were ahead, Houston showed a desire to get the win for the home team. That eventually paid off for Houston when Daly tied the score in the 22nd minute.
In the second half the Dash started off aggressive. The speed showed by the wingers was a key factor in the Dash taking the lead. In the 51st minute, Daly crossed the ball for Lloyd, who scored her first goal of the season, and put the Texas team ahead in the score. Only three minutes later Ohai found Beckie inside the box making the score 3-1, which ended up being the final score.
With that Houston got their first 3 points of the season. They started the 2016 season off right, potentially setting them up to make the playoffs and hopefully play their first final. After all the 2016 final will take place in Houston this year.
