In his latest Hinton Unleashed video, Prost Amerika analyst Alan Hinton commented on the Sounders’ 1-0 win over Houston last week, Sigi Schmid’s and Kasey Keller’s selection to the National Soccer Hall of Fame, the upcoming US vs Mexico friendly, the English Premier League table, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and his selection as one of England’s top wingers by Backpass magazine.
Schmid and Keller elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame
Hinton has a long-standing personal relationship with current Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid and former Sounder goalkeeper Kasey Keller. He shared his heartfelt pride in their selection to the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
“He’s (Schmid) a marvelous coach. He’s a marvelous man.”
USMNT and Mexico friendly
With the US playing Mexico in San Antonio, Texas on April 15, the former English winger thought Jozy Altidore’s ejection in the last USMNT match against Switzerland showed a lack of judgment by the rangy striker.
“He (Altidore) opened his mouth at the wrong time.”
Should the US team lose against Mexico next Wednesday, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s could be in line for more criticism for his management of the national team.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
On Wednesday, Lionel Messi notched his 33rd goal of the La Liga campaign in Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Almeria, while Cristiano Ronaldo recorded his 300th career goal in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory Rayo Vallecano.
Ronaldo tallied five goals in his previous match. Hinton felt the duo’s scoring prowess was partially due to the lack of competitive teams in the Spanish domestic league.
“There’s no way Cristiano Ronaldo would score five goals in the English Premier League.”
UK’s No. 17 all-time winger
Retro soccer magazine Backpass identified England’s top 20 wingers. Hinton was selected as the 17th best player on that list.
“I was number 17. That’s quite an honor for me.”
