In this week’s Hinton Unleashed video, Prost Amerika columnist and pundit Alan Hinton provided his views on the Jordan Morris signing, and the input he provided to Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid on Morris’ potential.
A number of recent controversial referee decisions convinced the former First Division winger the time was right for football to consider adopting a video replay system.
Jordan Morris
“I think Jordy Morris will push Dempsey and Valdez and Martins to greater things ’cause they know he’ll be breathing down their necks. They don’t want to be left off the team for younger rookie.”
Last week the Sounders announced Morris’ signing. Hinton was bullish on the former Stanford standout ever since Schmid asked for his opinion. He felt Morris was tough and a bit of a “bulldog.”
With veterans Clint Dempsey, Nelson Valdez and Obafemi Martins all slated to play up front, Hinton opined the addition of Morris would push the trio. They don’t want to be upstaged by the college newcomer.
Video reviews for soccer
“It’s time for video replays because the game is getting too fast.”
In last week’s match against the Gunners, Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker was sent off and a deciding penalty awarded to Chelsea after what appeared to be a phanthom tackle on Diego Costa. In their Everton clash, John Terry notched a tying goal in stoppage time from an offside position.
Those incidents and several other erroneous referring decisions prompted Hinton to ask for a soccer replay system similar to what’s used in other sports.
