Haley Kopmeyer was a wall last Sunday night during Seattle’s last match of the season against the Houston Dash. While the statistics say she had five official saves of the night, she did more than keep shots from the back of the net. Breaking up several runs herself, her clever play kept Houston from gaining momentum at crucial moments, giving her team time to regroup and pull off the come-back win.
Hailing from Michigan, Kopmeyer attended the University of Michigan where she was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year. Kopmeyer has been with the Reign since the inaugural season when she was selected in the 2013 NWSL College Draft by Seattle. While starting off her professional career as a back-up keeper, she is no stranger to hard work and has proved herself worthy of the starting spot.
A Prost to Haley Kopmeyer!
*The Prost Eisen Frauen (Iron Women) award is given by Prost Amerika to “the toughest women on the field” each week. Not just for a spectacular goal or incredible save, it’s in recognition of a game’s worth of work. The athlete chosen is one that impacts the match through their dedication to winning every play. Each week five athletes (one from each of the games played) will be up for nomination.
The award is voted on by the writers/photographers of Prost Amerika who cover the NWSL, as well as the Supporter Groups of the teams.
