Gonzalo Pineda, the former Seattle Sounder and Liga MX veteran, has a new role as an analyst for the Spanish-language television network Univision.
He provided Prost Amerika his thoughts on tonight’s and Wednesday’s CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal matches between four MLS and Liga MX teams.
In the audio below (English and Spanish versions), Pineda, who played for several Mexican teams between 2002-13, felt the two leagues differed in playing style rather than one being better than the other. MLS was also hampered by having to play these matches before the start of the 2016 MLS season.
As for a prediction on which MLS teams could progress to the semis, Pineda thought Seattle and LA Galaxy had chances against their Mexican rivals Club America and Santos Laguna, respectively. Seattle and Club America played to a 2-2 draw, while LA and Santos Laguna enter tonight’s second leg tied 0-0.
