Scoring for the Philadelphia Union came early and often on Friday evening, with D.C. United seemingly unable to mount any sort of real offensive effort.

The goals started pouring in at the 9th minute, when the Union Captain Alejandro Bedoya scored off of through ball assist from José Martínez.  Shortly thereafter, in the 22nd minute,  Julián Carranza placed his bicycle kick shot into the bottom left corner of goal, assisted by Jack Elliott’s high bouncing pass following a corner.

The score was 5-0 by the end of the first half, with additional goals in the 25th minute by Carranza (assisted by Leon Flach), the 37th minute by Bedoya (assisted by Kai Wagner) and in first half stoppage time by Mikael Uhre (assisted by Dániel Gazdag).

The second half saw Uhre score at the 59th minute into the left corner of goal.

At the 69th minute, D.C. United’s Chris Odoi-Atsem was called for a handball in the box, setting up a PK and an opportunity for a seventh goal. Carranza wanted the chance for a hat trick and took the PK, but D.C. United’s keeper Raphael Romo dove left and saved the attempt with his feet.

Carranza got his hat trick two minutes later, with a shot from the right side of the box off of a header from Philadelphia’s Corey Burke.
