As part of Prost Amerika’s expanded D.C. United coverage we will be taking a look at some of the players on the team and getting them to know them a little bit better. This week we will be speaking with midfielder Julian Büscher. Büscher, who was drafted by the club in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, has become a regular for coach Ben Olsen’s side. He has made 22 appearances for the club since being selected from the University of Syracuse.
Have questions for a particular player for a future interview? Please enter them in the comments section below! Also, a big thanks to the D.C. United Communications staff for their work with us on this project!
Prost Amerika: Favorite movie?
Julian Büscher: Pursuit of Happyness
PA: Favorite restaurant in the D.C. area?
JB: Nandos because of my former college roommate (and former D.C. United player) Paul Clowes.
PA: What is the biggest difference between living in the United States versus living in Germany?
JB: All of the open people here. You get in touch with a lot more people randomly here than in Germany.
PA: When you are in the weight room what music are you listening to?
JB: Kygo
PA: What do you like to do to unwind after a long practice or a match?
JB: I like to go on long bike rides around the monuments.
PA: If you weren’t a soccer player what would you be?
JB: Probably working in logistics. I received my degree (from Syracuse University) in Supply Chain Management so I would like to work somewhere where I am making things more efficient in different companies.
PA: Who was your favorite soccer player growing up and why?
JB: Kaka because he has the same birthday as me and he was the best player in the world at that time.
PA: What was it like playing against him in Orlando last year?
JB: I was honored. It was pretty cool to see him and he still has it unfortunately [Laughs].
PA: Where is one place in the world that you would like to play at before your career is done?
JB: I would love to play in England. I feel like that is where soccer was born.
PA: Any particular club?
JB: [Laughs] The best club possible. If I could play for Arsenal that would be kind of cool.
PA: Bigger rivalry: D.C. United versus New York Red Bulls or England versus Germany?
JB: I would have to say D.C. United-New York Red Bulls.
PA: Why? What makes it a bigger rivalry?
JB: Growing up it was always Germany-England and it still the bigger rivalry, to be honest.
