Poland 0 : 0 Germany
Poland and Germany played out an uneventful goalless draw in Paris. The biggest repercussion will be on Ukraine who are eliminated from EURO 2016 after just two games. Their 0-2 defeat to Northern Ireland earlier means they cannot finish higher than fourth. Even a win in their final game against Germany would leave them behind the Irish on the head to head.
Neither Polish or German coach will overtly worry about the negativity of this game. The sides met in the qualifiers and there was a certain amount of familiarity that enabled the defences to dominate.
A goalless first half threw up few highlights as both sides realised a draw would be helpful.
Within seconds of the restart Milik missed from feet away from goal as he mistimed his duck for a header. The ball was wider of the post than it had been from the goal line when he connected.
Milik also drove just wide after a free kick was rolled into his path.
Mesut Ozil forced a good 70th minute save out of Łukasz Fabianski but the match lacked any serious urgency from either side.
Germany didn’t want to tire their players and Poland were happy to grab a point from the tournament favorites with an eliminated Ukraine to play.
Young starlet Bartosz Kapustka came on in the 80th minute for Poland which may be one for trivia quizzes to come, but this group may be already last its best with draws suiting all the sides in the final round when Germany play Northern Ireland and Poland play Romania.
