Vancouver Whitecaps 2-Minnesota United FC 3

After two years Minnesota United FC finally have a road win against a Western Conference side. In a season in which club moves into their new home and expectations are high that they can turn around their losing ways the club have at least started 2019 on a high note. On Saturday night The Loons earned their historic win in fine fashion, defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-2 in their 2019 season opener at BC Place.

Things started out on a good note for the Caps after Erik Godoy gave the home side the go-ahead goal in the sixth minute. But the rebuilt Minnesota attack, led by Darwin Quinteiro and Angelo Rodriguez, were primed and ready using their speed to disrupt the Caps defense. Quinteiro levelled the score with a penalty kick goal in the 37th minute. He would also assist on goals by Francisco Calvo (66′) and Romario Ibarra (70′) in the second half giving Minnesota a big lead late. While Vancouver did get to within one with a goal from Doneil Henry in the 81st minute, they were unable to close the gap.
