Toronto FC 3-Montreal Impact 1

Seven wins in ten matches? Make it six now for Toronot FC. After coach Greg Vanney’s proclamation of what the club needed to do to get over the top in the Eastern Conference his side took it upon themselvves to get an early start. On Saturday night at BMO Field The Reds defeated their hated rivals the Montreal Impact 3-1 to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Sebastian Giovinco scored twice for Toronto in the first half to give his side the early 2-0 advantage. Jonathon Osorio made it three with his goal in the 29th minute. Although Montreal did get one back just a minute later with an Alejandro Silva strike they couldn’t solve TFC’s defense to make it two.

With the win, Toronto (7-12-6, 27 points) earn their first win in league play in five matches. They are currently six points behind the Impact (10-14-3, 33 points) for sixth place in MLS’ Eastern Conference standings with both the New England Revolution (7-12-8, 29 points) and D.C. United (7-10-6, 27 points) between them.
