Toronto FC 3-Club America 1

The best football matches always contain a little bit of drama, a little bit of humor, a little bit of excitement, and Miguel Herrera. On Tuesday night at BMO Field Toronto FC and Club America got all of that and more in their wet, wild, and wonderful Champions League tie. But at the end of the night Toronto FC supporters just might be a little bit happier after their side pulled off a 3-1 win the first leg of their semifinal series.

Sebastian Giovinco gave his side the lead in just the ninth minute notching home his penalty kick chance. But Xolos would respond midway through the first half with a goal of their own, courtesy of sublime footwork and a cracking strike by midfielder Andres Ibarguen (21′). The Reds attack though would not let their supporters down with Jozy Altidore giving his side the advantage once again before halftime (44′). An insurance goal by defender Ashtone Morgan would seal the victory and give TFC some breathing room after America’s road goal.

The two sides will meet again on April 10th at 10pn EST (Univision Deportes, Go90 in the United States and TSN in Canada). But before then please make sure to check out Luis Martinez’s recap of last night’s match as well as some of our photos from the match courtesy of Prost Amerika photographer David Chant (You can give him your thoughts on Instagram) and Michael Fayehun (you can follow him on Instagram here) .
