Seattle Sounders 5- Los Angeles Galaxy 0
The start of any good late-season comeback usually involves smiting a hated rival. The Seattle Sounders did just that on Saturday afternoon dispatching the Los Angeles Galaxy 5-0 to give their annual late season playoff run a much-needed boost.
The Sounders goals were scored by Chad Marshall (3′), Harry Shipp (18′), Cristian Roldan (59′) and Raul Ruidiaz (67′) with a Servando Carrasco own goal in the 50th minute. Goalkeeper Stefan Frei saved five shots en route to his fifth shutout of the season. With the win, Seattle (10-9-5, 35 points) moves to within a point of the Portland (10-6-7, 37 points) Timbers for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The two sides will meet on Saturday at Providence Park on Sunday (9:30 PM EST/6:30 PM PST FS1).
