Seattle Sounders 0-Club Nacional de Football 2
Chances are this was probably not the way Jordan Morris envisioned his return to the Link would go. The Sounders Homegrown made his first appearance back with Seattle on Wednesday night in the club’s 2-0 loss against Nacional of Uruguay.
Forward Gonzalo Bergessio (19′) and Santiago Rodriguez (46′) supplied the goals for Nacional, who were one of the powerhouses of Uruguay’s Primera Division. The Bolso Tricolores have won 46 Primera Division titles but have been on a bit of a dry spell, having last won Uruguay’s top division in 2016. Nacional and Seattle are tied together as it is the childhood club of current Sounder Nicolas Lodeiro.
As for Seattle while the loss will certainly raise some alarm as to the club’s depth it should be noted that Raul Ruidiaz, Stefan Frei, Kim Kee-Hee, Chad Marshall, Brad Smith, Victor Rodriguez, and Kevin Leerdam all sat out. Morris played the final 30 minutes and looked at times rusty, but there were glimmers that he can have a return to form.
The Sounders will play their final preseason match on Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes (12:45 PST/3:45 EST). Expect to see more of the Sounders starting XI during that match and perhaps a better test to Morris’ match fitness.
On hand to cover the match was the newest member of the Prost team, photographer Paul Kahl. Please enjoy some of his photos below!
