San Jose Earthquakes 3- LAFC 4

Play to the final whistle. It is something that all soccer or football players are told from the time they play their first match. Until their is a final whistle anything and everything can happen. Despite finding themselves down a goal in injury time LAFC (7-4-3, 29 points) continued to press the San Jose Earthquakes into the final minutes of the match. They were rewarded with a 4-3 road win against the Quakes (2-9-3, 22 points) on Saturday night.

San Jose got the goalfest started with a goal by Vako in the 11th minute. LAFC responded immediately with two goals of their own courtesy of Adama Diomande (15′) and Steven Beitashour (19′). In the second half as he has done so many times in the past, Chris Wondolowski gave the Quakes a bit of a spark netting two goals (52′ and 63′) to put his side ahead 3-2.

Now normally a 3-2 lead at home against an expansion side might mean three points. But as we have seen time and time again this season, LAFC are no typical expansion side. They equalized in the 90th minute when Diomande nabbed his second of the match, off of a clever ball inside by defender Walker Zimmerman. They would find the game-winner after nabbing a free kick in dangerous territory. Lee Nguyen’s kick found Latif Blessing down the left flank, who delivered a pass into the box for Joao Moutinho. Moutinho’s shot just went beyond the reach of Quakes goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell giving LAFC the 4-3 win.
