San Jose Earthquakes 1-New York Red Bulls 3

The New York Red Bulls continued their push towards the Supporters Shield on Saturday, getting their first win as a visitor against the San Jose Earthquakes since 2003 in a 3-1 result.

Alex Muyl (29′), Bradley Wright-Phillips (32′), and Aaron Long (50′) supplied the goals for the Red Bulls. With the win New York (20-7-5, 65 points) stays within a point of Atlanta United FC (20-6-6-, 66 points) for the Shield. Their road swing will continue on October 21 when they head to Philadelphia to take on the Union (3pm EST).

As for San Jose (4-20-8, 20 points) while they did sustain another loss, all but sealing their fate as the holder of the wooden spoon, there was some joy to take out of the match as Chris Wondolowski scored in the 83rd minute. With his goal, he moves to within one goal of Landon Donovan for the league’s all-time leading scorer mark. The club will look to break the record on October 21 as they play their final home game of the season against the Colorado Rapids (5pm EST).
