Portland Timbers 2-Toronto FC 0

Sometimes all you need to snap a losing streak is a little home cooking. Thanks to two goals in the second half the Portland Timbers ended their three game losing streak on Wednesday night at Providence Park with a 2-0 win over Toronto FC.

Diego Chara (64′) and David Guzman (83′) each netted goals for the Timbers their first and second of the season respectively. With Sebastian Giovinco not in the eighteen for The Reds Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella faced a relatively quiet night, making one save en route to the shutout.

With the win Portland (11-7-7, 40 points) jumps into fifth place in the Western Conference three points ahead of the Seattle Sounders (11-9-5, 38 points). After a Labor Day weekend off Portland will host the Colorado Rapids next Saturday (9/8 10:30 PM EST, ESPN +).

As for Toronto FC (7-13-6, 27 points) the loss keeps them six points shy of the Montreal Impact (10-14-3, 33 points) for the sixth and final spot in the East. They will return home on Saturday to host LAFC (12-7-7, 43 points).
