LAFC 2-Columbus Crew 0
The big question for LAFC entering this World Cup period was how their club would cope without some of their top players. The answer? Quite well. Despite not being at full strength LAFC put two past Columbus Crew early to earn the 2-0 win on Saturday.
Laurent Ciman, who came back from Belgium’s World Cup side early, scored in the 4th minute for LAFC. Adama Diomande doubled their lead just four minutes later with a goal of his own, his fourth of the season. While their early scoring was impressive so too was their defensive work. Goalkeeper Tyler Miller had a rather quiet afternoon (one save) thanks in large part to the high press of the LAFC defense led by Ciman and fellow center-back Walker Zimmerman. With the win LAFC (8-4-3, 27 points) moved into third place in the Western Conference while the Crew (7-5-6, 27 points) fall to fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
