FC Dallas 2-Philadelphia Union 0

Sometimes soccer is all about finding the right starting eleven. Other times it is about picking the right substitutes off of the bench to turn one’s form around late. FC Dallas on Saturday had a case of the former as super-sub’s Maximiliano Urruti and Mauro Diaz lifted the Hoops to a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union.

Diaz’s goal came in the 64th minute off of a penalty kick opportunity. It was his first goal of the season. Urruti added an insurance goal just ten minutes later, finishing off a low pass into the Union penalty box with a clever touch past goalkeeper Andre Blake. While the goals certainly made the difference in the match the story was the goalkeeping play of Blake and FC Dallas’ Jimmy Maurer. The two combined for ten saves and kept the two potent attacking sides at bay in the first half with several quality stops.
