FC Cincinnati 3-Portland Timbers 0
Welcome to Major League Soccer, FC Cincinnati! On Sunday The Orange and Blue gave the league a little bit of a taste of what they can expect this season when they meet Die Innenstadt, The Legion, The Pride, Queen City Firm and The Briogáid and the rest of the Cincinnati faithful: noise, excitement and some mighty fine soccer. On Sunday their first win in MLS came at the expense of the Portland Timbers, getting the 3-0 win in their home opener over the defending Western Conference champions.
Kendall Waston scored Cincy’s first-ever home goal in MLS in the 15th minute, polishing off a free kick from Leonardo Bertone. The Timbers attack came alive midway through the first half with a series of goal-scoring opportunities. However, Cincy goalkeeper Spencer Richey was up for the task of keeping the potent attack at bay making three saves to earn the clean sheet. In the second half Cincinnati would make it 2-0 after Allen Cruz (61′)hit a clever back-heeled shot past Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella. They added a third minutes later when Mathieu Deplagne scooped up the rebound off a shot from distance on the far post.
