FC Cincinnati 2-Montreal Impact 1
After a very difficult weekend, FC Cincinnati supporters needed something to smile about. They may have found it. To cap a turbulent week in the club’s first season in Major League Soccer The Orange and Blue ended things on a high note, winning 2-1 against the Montreal Impact.
Allan Cruz got things started for Cincinnati, scoring in just the seventh minute of the match. The goal was his second of the season and snapped a five match goalless streak for the side. Fatai Alashe doubled their lead in the second half with his strike in the 62nd minute, his first of the season. Things got a bit bumpy late for Cincinnati as Orji Okwonkwo scored for Montreal in the 75th minute. But they held on thanks in part to some stellar goalkeeping from Spencer Richey, who made two saves to earn the three points.
With the loss Montreal (6-3-2, 20 points) remain in third place in the Eastern Conference standings. They will host the New England Revolution on Saturday (1pm EST, MLS Live/ESPN +).
As for Cincinnati the win snaps a seven game winless run and gives new coach Yoann Damet a very good result to build the rest of his tenure on. Damet replaced Allan Koch in the midweek and at this time is operating under the interim label. He will have another chance to prove his up for the job full-time on Sunday when his side travels down to Florida to take on Orlando City SC (3PM ESPN+),
