Columbus Crew 2-Real Salt Lake 1
Score early and defend like hell. As a strategy it is not one of the easiest to pull off in soccer but when it works, it certainly works. On Saturday night at MAPFRE Stadium the Columbus Crew needed all eleven players to get the three points against a potent Real Salt Lake side. Thanks to some early goals and some effective defending they received the right amount of effort in their 2-1 win.
Gyasi Zardes scored first in the fifth minute, his eleventh of the season. Eduardo Sosa added in a second in the 23rd minute to give Columbus the 2-0 advantage. While RSL brought the deficit down to one thanks to an Albert Rusnak strike it wasn’t enough to prevent the Crew from getting the win.
