Colorado Rapids 3-Portland Timbers 3
It was just under six weeks ago that Andre Shinyashiki was waiting to learn his soccer future. He didn’t wait long to make the Colorado Rapids realize they made a wise choice in selecting him in the MLS SuperDraft. On a snowy afternoon at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City the rookie out of the University of Denver paid immediate dividends for his side, netting the equalizer in the Rapids 3-3 draw with the Portland Timbers.
Saturday’s opener was a back and forth affair with the two sides trading leads throughout the full ninety minutes. Kei Kamara got things going with his goal in the 16th minute. But Portland came right back before halftime with goals from Diego Valeri (29′) and Sebastian Blanco (45+1′). Benny Feilhaber, another new addition to the Rapids, levelled the score for the home side just a minute into the second half. Although a Deklan Wynne own goal seemed to doom Colorado to another tough loss Sinyashaki gave the Colorado supporters a bit of hope that 2019 might be a little different.
