Colorado Rapids 2-Portland Timbers 3
An average side has trouble with adversity on the road. A good side can see that adversity, meet it head on, and get a result. While the Portland Timbers might not know side they are this season they can at least feel that things are heading in a promising direction. Despite an own goal and playing altitude the Portland Timbers (6-3-2, 20 points) defeated the Colorado Rapids (2-7-2, 8 points) 3-2 on Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Samuel Armenteros (29′) and (37′) scored twice to push the Timbers ahead early. Diego Valeri made it three with his goal in the 56th minute, his fifth of the season. The Rapids received their two goals from a Julio Cascante own goal in the 31st minute and a Yannick Boli penalty kick goal in extra time (90’+9′).
Portland Timbers reporter Fern McOistigan has two recaps of the match which you can read below. But on hand to cover the match was Prost Amerika photographer Corbin Elliott. You can check out some of his shots from the match below and his full gallery from the Rapids season on SmugMug.
