France moves on to a quarterfinal match with Germany, after defeating Korea Republic 3-0 on Sunday in Montreal, Canada.
Marie Laure Delie scored in the fourth minute to give Les Bleues the early 1-0 lead and Elodie Thomis doubled the lead just four minutes later with her strike, after speeding through the box and punching it far post.
Delie scored her second goal in the 48th minute after an amazing run by Eugenie Le Sommer, who wove through four defenders before sending the ball back to Delie.
France did an impressive job of playing the ball out wide and overwhelmingly controlled possession at 62 percent.
Korean keeper Kim Jugmi took a beating in the match, taking an elbow to her right cheekbone, courtesy of her own player. The blow stopped the game for over five minutes while she received medical assistance. Jugmi got up and returned to the goal, but later came out for a ball and was smacked by an opponent’s head on the other cheekbone. Again, Jugmi was able to continue playing.
Les Bleues seem to have done a good job recovering from their upset at the hands of Columbia and will be a good match for Germany on Friday.
