Pacific Midfielder/Defender goes No. 26 overall.

CHICAGO, IL—Chicago Fire FC began Day 1 of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft with two picks in the first round (#10 and #26). They would trade the #10-pick to New York Red Bulls for $100,000 in general allocation money. With the #26-pick, they selected defender Jonathan Jimenez from Pacific University.

Jimenez joined the Tigers after two years at Seton Hall. He started all but one match in his first three years in college before injury cut short his senior year. At Pacific, he scored eight goals and five assists. Jimenez can play either left back or in the midfield.

The Fire had no second round picks. In fact, their next and final pick—barring trades—will be the #104 overall pick. Day Two of the SuperDraft is on Monday.

As far as local college players go, UIC’s Jesus Perez went #22 overall to New York City FC. Perez had 14 goals and 28 assists in three years with the Flames and led the NCAA in 2018 in assists with 12.
