CHICAGO, IL–A member of Chicago Fire FC’s first team has tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) the club said in a statement on Friday night. The unnamed player, who is asymptomatic, was not part of the delegation that traveled to Columbus on Thursday. He will remain in isolation until medically cleared and will be monitored by the club’s medical staff.

The club also stated that all other players and staff had returned consecutive negative tests and have no symptoms.

Per MLS testing protocol, all MLS players undergo Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests every other day, including the day before each match. The confirmation of a positive COVID-19 case occurs when a player receives two consecutive positive test results. As a result of this confirmed positive test, the Fire will now begin daily testing of the entire first team and football staff. In addition, the team has implemented contact tracing.

The Fire remain scheduled to play FC Cincinnati on Tuesday, August 25th at Soldier Field (6:30pm, WGN-TV).
