CHICAGO, IL—The Chicago Fire continue to look to the Slavic region to find international talent. This time, it is Slovakian international Boris Sekulic who last played from Polish side Gornik Zabrze.

Sekluic, 28, will be added to the Fire’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa. He is under contract with the Fire through the 2022 season.

“Boris is a talented and smart defender that will immediately strengthen our backline,” said Chicago Fire FC Head Coach Raphael Wicky. “We are excited to welcome him to Chicago ahead of the 2020 season.”

Prior to playing for Gornik, he played in the Slovak Super Liga with FC Kosice (2011-2015) and Slovan Bratislava (2015-2018) for seven seasons making a total of 183 appearances and getting winners medals in the Slovak Cup in 2014, 2017, and 2018. In 2018, he played one season with CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria where he made 12 appearances. He has earned two caps thus far with Slovakia.

He will join the Fire for preseason training camp in Los Angeles and occupy an international slot.

In preseason action in Los Angeles, the Fire fell, 4-2, to the Colorado Rapids. CJ Sapong and Elliot Collier scored for the Fire. They next play Toronto FC at UC-Irvine on Wednesday with a 5pm CT kickoff.
