Seven teams took part in this FIFA-organised tournament from the six main world football confederations along with local side, Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
The vast difference in quality between the confederations is clear and is reflected by the setup of the tournament.
The European and South American representatives get entered automatically into the Semi Final, whereas for Auckland City to win the tournament they would have had to have won four matches.
It will return to Tokyo again in 2016, and will then move onto UAE in 2017
and 2018 with the most likely venues being Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
