FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Femi Hollinger-Janzen continues to be a difference maker for the New England Revolution.
The rookie out of Indiana University scored his second goal of the season in the late stages of the Revolution’s 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.
Femi was falling backwards as he controlled a short pass from Lee Nguyen, found his balance, and then didn’t think twice about shooting, the ball rolling with pace past Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
The Sounders opened the scoring in the seventh minute through Aaron Kovar, who pounced on a poor giveaway in the penalty area by Revolution shot-stopper Bobby Shuttleworth.
Seattle’s goal started as Joevin Jones advanced down the flank and crossed, Shuttleworth punching the ball into the path of Kovar, who cut past Tierney and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
In the 23rd minute, the Revolution caught a lucky break as referee Fotis Bazakos called a penalty kick as Erik Friberg was called for a handball in the box despite taking a clearance by Jones in the gut.
Nguyen buried the ensuing spot kick, firing right past an outstretched Frei.
With the goal, Nguyen became the Revolution’s most accurate penalty kick taker; he’s converted all 13 of his attempts (Shalrie Joseph had 12 converted penalty kicks in his Revolution career).
The Revolution have now won twice in their last three games. Saturday night also marked the first time this season that the Revolution come back from a deficit to win.
